"Alexis is absolutely amazing with dogs! When I first adopted my rat terrier, Chiquita, she had anxiety issues and a little aggression, probably from emotional trauma in her past. We were not sure how to address some of the issues she had, including separation anxiety. Alexis spent a few hours with her one afternoon deciding what she responded best to then she gave my husband and I training tips. We followed her suggestions and Chiquita has improved drastically. Alexis continues to help with her training as well as monitors her progress and behavior. We could not have asked for someone more relaxed and effective."
Thank you for the wonderful training sessions you had with Echo and our family. She is a new dog! well, I think she is the dog she was always meant to be. We just didn't know how to get there. But with your help and guidance, we are all much happier. Many thanks!
Alexis is the BEST. We've worked with a number of trainers in the area and haven't found anyone to be as knowledgable and supportive. She addressed exactly what we wanted to address and did so clearly and effectively, providing us with a program we could follow. We saw results just after a few sessions. Our incredibly fearful and reactive dog actually ceased to hurl herself at all approaching dogs and people and instead is now able to focus on us and remain calm during walks. This is certainly something that we had never thought possible, especially since we were at the end of our rope having tried so many other options. Nothing short of miraculous!
Alexis is awesome! We learned more from her in two sessions that either of us had learned from reading three dog training books. We have a young, high-strung, adopted dog who had some stress issues - and the training that Alexis provided allowed us to work with our dog at home to really improve the behaviors! Totally worth it.

Two months after we adopted our dog Baron, we were honestly considering giving him up. We were really at a loss with his behavior issues, which were a mile long. But on a friend's insistence we decided to try Zen Dog. Alexis came to meet us, and after our first session I was sold. Long story short, we've been working with Alexis since then, and have gained so much. She gave us so many simple tools that my family and I could implement ourselves. She makes everything seem so simple, and now we're so proud to go out on the town with Baron - we get compliments now on how well-behaved he is! And not only is Alexis incredibly knowledgeable - I learned some fascinating things about dog behavior - she is also a genuinely great person that is a pleasure to be around.

Alexis provides training for our two dogs at our home and we've seen remarkable results and ...they absolutely love her. We found her to be outstanding on so many levels. She's extremely knowlegeble about dog training and is very aware of the various approaches used in the dog training field. She's available not only during the training but via phone, email, etc for clarification and additional advice. She's compassionate and really cares about animals and particularly those she's involved with. She often inquires about our Golden who has some ongoing health issues and her concern has provided encouragement and support. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting and needing personalized service for their dogs.

I rarely write reviews but ZDT really deserves our compliments. Our golden retriever, Maddie, immediately took to Alexis' methods and her behavior has been so much improved! Alexis is compassionate, playful and clearly dedicated to the animals she trains. We continue to use Alexis frequently and strongly recommend her to my friends!

Alexis clearly has a deep understanding of dog behavior, and a compassionate but firm approach to animal training with very clear objectives. She puts her whole heart and soul into what she does. It's clear that it's not just a job but a life-long passion driven by her love of animals. I highly recommend Zen Dog.

Alexis of Zen Dog Training has been a godsend to us. As first-time dog owners, we were completely unprepared for the fear-related issues that our ten-month-old rescue, Georgie, presented to us. Alexis came recommended by a friend and from the very beginning has been amazing. She wrote up a full diagnostic of Georgie's behavior and presented us with handouts and a customized training plan. She followed up each session with a summary email which was incredibly helpful to us. If we had any training-related questions, she was more than happy to respond to emails and texts. She is gentle, patient, and persistent with Georgie, and explained each training step to us fully. Georgie is now doing very well, he no longer barks at bikes or children and is becoming calmer and more comfortable with his new life every day. She obviously cares deeply about making positive changes in the lives of dogs and their owners and has been more than generous with her time and advice. When I asked her for advice about vets, she called several vets in our area for us, which I thought was very kind. I highly recommend Zen Dog Training and Alexis for anyone who has a pet in need of help!

I was at the end of my rope when we hired Alexis. I live with my two young daughters, 4 and 8, my husband and our 4-year-old pit bull rescue, Bella. We love Bella more than anything, but we'd been having major problems ever since we adopted her two years ago. From the beginning she would totally lose it when she heard anything at our door - the doorbell, the mailman, a knock, a gust of wind. Alone, that's enough to make a person insane.
Another one of her lovely habits was to terrorize our old cat by barking and chasing him whenever she would see him, to the extent that he had to be confined to the top floor of our house. The last straw was when she took to chasing my youngest daughter around nipping at her heels and even growling at visitors. We tried a few other trainers over the years, but none were able to give us results. We were so upset when Bella's behavior actually started to get worse rather than better.
Then we found Zen Dog Training on the trainers listing on the Association for Pet Dog Trainers website. Alexis immediately gave us hope - she was empathetic and sensitive to our situation, and treated Bella in a way that showed how much she truly does love dogs. She did a full assessment of Bella's behavior and planned a training program for us. Everything she explained about Bella's behavior and how we should deal with it just made total sense to us. With every visit from Alexis, we noticed Bella not only behaving better, but she was also a happier dog - and she LOVED Alexis. We never thought it would be possible, but Alexis helped us achieve our most important goals. Bella now goes to her bed every time she hears the doorbell ring and stays there until we release her to greet our guests, which she does politely and without drama. And most impressive is the fact that Alexis was able to help us get Bella to a point where she no longer chases the cat! Amazing, honestly. I would encourage anyone looking for a highly capable dog trainer to contact Alexis.
